In the Footsteps of Paul — 8-Day Tour of Greece

Itinerary

Day 1: Athens – Arrival

Upon arrival at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” you will be met by our local representative, who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Enjoy a panoramic orientation tour of the city before check-in. Your journey to the biblical land of Greece begins!

Day 2: Athens City Tour – Mars’ Hill & the Areopagus

In the morning, climb the marble-capped Acropolis to visit the famous Parthenon and Erechtheion temples. Then walk to nearby Mars’ Hill (Areopagus) (Acts 17:22), where Paul delivered his soul-stirring sermon to the giants of philosophy, logic, and learning, and spoke of the inscription “to an unknown god.” Continue with a panoramic sightseeing tour of the city’s highlights, and the remainder of the day is free to explore Plaka, the oldest and most picturesque district of Athens.

Day 3: Ancient Corinth – In the Steps of a Thriving Church

This morning, depart from Athens, driving along the scenic Saronic Gulf with a photo stop at the historic Corinth Canal. Continue to the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth (Acts 18:1–18), where the Apostle Paul lived and worked, establishing a thriving church and later sending two of his epistles, now part of the New Testament. Explore every site linked to his ministry – the Agora, the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Odeon, the Bema, and Gallio’s Seat – and visit the compact but essential local archaeological museum. Return to Athens in the afternoon, with the evening free to explore the city’s historical and modern center.

Day 4: Delphi & the Road North

Set off for the Oracle of Delphi, once regarded as the center of the ancient world, whose renown reached far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic realm. Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, and the archaeological museum, home to masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture, including the bronze Charioteer and the celebrated athlete Aghias. Our journey continues to Kalambaka, one of the most beautiful towns in Greece.

Day 5: Berea – Thessalonica – Monasteries in the Sky

This morning, visit the spectacular Meteora monasteries, built atop towering grey rock pillars – veritable Byzantine sanctuaries showcasing superb icons and manuscripts dating to the 14th century. Continue to Berea (Acts 17:10–15), where Paul arrived and, following his custom, went to the synagogue – discovering, to his pleasant surprise, that the Jews he encountered were “searching the scriptures.” View the Byzantine mosaic commemorating his preaching (Acts 17:10–11) before continuing to Thessalonica in the late afternoon for our overnight stay.

Day 6: Philippi – Kavala – Paul’s First European Church

En route to Philippi, pass the Lion Statue of Amphipolis for a brief photo stop. At Philippi, walk the site where Paul established a strong church and later sent his epistle (Acts 16:9–33) – including the river where Lydia is said to have been baptized, the ruins of the prison that held Paul and Silas, the Agora, the 5th- and 6th-century Basilica, and the Theater. Continue to Kavala, the ancient port of Neapolis (Acts 16:11), for a panoramic tour before returning to Thessalonica for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Thessalonica – Where Paul Reasoned with Greeks and Jews

Before departing for Athens, enjoy a city tour of Thessalonica (Acts 17:1), where Paul went immediately to the synagogue and, for three Sabbaths, explained the prophecies of the Old Testament to Jews and Greeks alike. According to the Book of Acts, many Greeks – including a number of prominent women – came to believe (Acts 17:1–4). Visit the upper Old City Walls, then drive along the Egnatian Way to see the Triumphal Arch of Galerius and the Rotunda. Afterward, journey back to Athens, arriving in the evening for our final overnight stay.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight, carrying with you the sights, stories, and spirit of the land where Paul’s ministry in Europe first took root.
